STDs are Scary So Read This
STD statistics seem to show an upward trend year after year in the US and other places in the world. To be more specific the rise in syphilis among men and women are big contributors to this trend. If it is not Syphilis, then the it is Chlamydia and gonorrhea that contributes a big part in the STD statistics as well.
The problem with STD statistics is that it is likely to be inaccurate. There are chances that the current STD statistics do not have a number of undetected cases because STDs like Chlamydia rarely develop symptoms. Needless to say the rise in the numbers are still alarming.
This does not change the fact that there are a lot of people, and the numbers are growing, who are suffering from chlamydia, syphilis and gonorrhea. For instance, ten years ago in the united States, there were more or less a million people documented to be suffering from Chlamydia. That number was apparently higher than it was in the previous year. meanwhile 350000 men and women had gonorrhea in 2007. The number appears to grow higher each year.
Simply put, the statistics shows that the most common STDs are gonorrhea and chlamydia. Chlamydia is not hard to diagnose even if the symptoms are not showing. Gonorrhea, like chlamydia is also easy to be medically identified. The good news is that when diagnosed early, they can be treated. There is a chance that these two STDs can lead to problems like infertility or PID in women if left untreated. In women, these STDs can also lead to health issues like pelvic pain or ectopic pregnancy.
Although men suffer from chlamydia less, this does not mean that they can’t be affected by complications. Meanwhile, gonorrhea can lead to very serious complications in men. if left untreated, it can lead to infertility or it can travel to the blood stream and the joints. Gonorrhea can be fatal in men.
What does this mean? This suggests that both women and men should be more aware of STDs than ever. Awareness is the key to avoiding STDs and knowing what to do if you get it.
With the heightened cases of STDs, more and more people should choose to exercise safety. The statistics is a subtle reminder that there is a big risk of STDs when you have multiple partners. The right use of latex can also help avoid the spread of these diseases.
Moreover, people should also get themselves checked when they have a new partner. For cases where your partner is having an affair, it is better to get screened. Awareness will help keep the numbers low.
